Keeley Hookten's Bio

Performing

Keeley Hookten, soprano, graduated in 2014 from Southwestern University with a double major in Music and Anthropology. She is a winner of the 2012 Southwestern University Concerto Competition, and while at Southwestern performed the role of June in Gypsy, Ms. Pinkerton in The Old Maid and the Thief, and Ms. Vixen and the understudy of Lucy in The Beggar's Opera. In 2018, she received her Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy at Texas State University. During her time at Texas State, she performed the role of Susanna in Marriage of Figaro and the Dew Fairy in Hansel and Gretel.

Mrs. Hookten has participated in young artist programs including the 2012 Butler Opera Center Young Artist Program at the University of Texas at Austin, and spent the summer of 2013 singing with Opera in the Ozarks. Mrs. Hookten performed the role of the Second Spirit in Opera NEO's 2104 summer performance of The Magic Flute. She was a member of the Austin Lyric Opera Chorus from 2013 to 2015, performing in Tosca and Don Giovanni. Ms. Hookten was the title role in Little Red Riding Hood and performed in the chorus of The Magic Flute and Hansel and Gretel during Spotlight on Opera's 9th summer season.

 

Directing

Last year Mrs. Hookten Los Coyotes y las Conejas and selections from Die Fledermaus with THCOA. She has assistant directed Texas State Opera's Turn of The Screw  (2018) and Spotlight on Opera's Albert Herring (2016) under Dr. Samuel Mungo. She has directed of scenes from La Boheme, Dialogues of the Carmelites, and Beatrice et Benedict during Spotlight on Opera's tenth season.

 

Artistic Administration

After serving as Artistic Administrator for Spotlight on Opera for two seasons and Artistic Director of Texas Hill Country Opera and Arts for one, Keeley has gained valuable insight and skills necessary to become successful in the business of opera. During her time as Artistic Director of Texas Hill Country Opera and Arts, she introduced a free children's opera to the community of New Braunfels.

 

Dancing

Dance has been a timeless passion. Having 15 years of studio dance experience, Mrs. Hookten understands the importance of movement on stage. Recently, she has received a Dance Studio Owner certification and has been taking lessons for couple's dance instruction to add children's ballet and couple's dance to the Hookten Harmony studio!

Teaching

Ms. Hookten teaches private voice and piano lessons for over five years to students from age 3 to 73. In the past, she has enjoyed teaching at public schools, Montessori Villa of the Woodlands, and a voice class at Texas State to undergraduate non-majors. 

In 2020 she moved to Colorado and is loving life in the mountains. She has fulfilled her dream of becoming a small business owner and is teaching online and in person voice and piano lessons.
